What is yacht chartering? 
If you don’t already own a yacht, or only own one, yacht charter is the ideal way to see if you enjoy the lifestyle. It not only allows you to try out different locations but also affords you the opportunity to experience a long-term sea trial before committing to buying a particular type of yacht.
Chartering involves purchasing the use of a yacht for a fixed period of time – this could be for a few hours (e.g. a sunset cruise), a day or a longer period such as a week or a month. It’s ideal for corporate entertainment, spending time away with family and friends or for racing a regatta in a foreign country. The charter could be fully crewed (i.e. with a captain and other crew) or bareboat (when the charterer operates the yacht him/herself). There are advantages with each, but owners who deal in luxury yacht charter will generally insist that they are fully crewed. Whether or not the yacht comes with crew is also influenced by other practical issues – for example, the need for adequate yachting qualifications and a requirement for specialist knowledge in an area.
