What is Yacht Management?
Owning a yacht is like owning a piece of property on shore, or a business, depending on whether or not you charter it out. Just as you would ensure that any similarly valuable asset or business was looked after and managed, you need to ensure that the same concept applies to your yacht on a day-to-day basis.
How does it work?
You will have a captain who is essentially the CEO when you’re at sea as he or she has expert knowledge in handling vessels. You are the Chairman and all decisions lie with you – you can even fire the captain, but ultimately, you are likely to defer to his or her judgment. The captain will be supported by various staff and, if the yacht is large enough, they will effectively be like heads of department or senior managers. For example, you could have a Chief Engineer, a Chief Hostess, a Head Chef, and so on.
Why use a yacht management company?
A yacht management company can add value by being the link between you and the team on the yacht, by providing management expertise which might not necessarily be within the captain’s skill-set, and by providing opportunities for crew sharing amongst several yachts, depending on their usage and the season.
Our management area is likely to be a bit different to our competitors because, while we have a strong background in running yachts, we also have skills developed in commerce. This means that we not only understand yachts and yacht maintenance, but also what is likely to be important to our clients when it comes to business. Our performance contracts come with defined measures so that everyone has the same expectations. We believe in effective, detailed communication – when reporting back to you, we’ll provide a description, in layman’s terms, of what work was required and what was delivered.

Our services
How your yacht is maintained, kept ready for use or performance optimised depends on a few different factors, such as whether the yacht is power or sail, or used for racing or cruising, for instance. Whatever your needs, we have the skills to do what is required, as shown in the table below:
We have different yacht maintenance packages – Silver, Gold or Platinum – which enable you to pay for what you need. For example, if you don’t use your yacht frequently, you may opt for the Silver package which will ensure that all maintenance is carried out but you don’t pay for a full, full-time crew. If, however, you are running a busy charter operation, you are most likely to need the Platinum package.
For racing sailboats, we can prepare the yacht before the season or for major events through optimising the rating and the foils, systems, rig and sails. We can also coach the crew you have or supply top quality racing sailors. These can range from very good amateurs (required for some events) to America’s Cup professionals. Having good, organised sailors on your yacht will not only help you win silverware, it can also help you avoid costly breakages.
